- Karel Capek, an author from Czechoslovakia, produced a work
called "Rossum's Universal Robots", which featured
machines, called Robots, created to simulate human beings.
- The first Radio Shack was created in the heart of downtown
Boston. It was a mail-order company which catered to ham radio
operators and electronics buffs.

- John Logie Baird, a Scottish engineer, created the first
television from cardboard, scrap wood, needles, string and
other scrap materials.
