The name of ARPA was changed to the Defense Advanced Research
Projects Agency (DARPA). DARPA was established as a separate
defense agency under the Office of the Secretary of Defense.

researchers announce the completion of File Transfer Protocol
(FTP). This is the protocol used to transmit and receive
information over the new APRAnet.

The International Conference on Computer Communication in
Washington on October 1972, was the first demonstration of the
newly founded ARPAnet.
