ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers)
founded to coordinate internet activities. The non-profit
organization is the highest authority to implement new generic
top level domains and to accredit registrars.

On November 2nd a self-replicating program (a worm) was
released on the internet. This worm invaded VAX and Sun-3
computers running Berkley UNIX. The worm used the computer
resources to attack more computers. It only took hours for the
worm to spread across the United States. It infected thousands
of computers and made many of the unusable.
The CERT Coordination Center was formed by the Advanced Research
Projects Agency (ARPA) in response to the needs exhibited during
an Internet security incident.
